Hmm.... After Valley I moved to FL and went to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach. Participated in the 5 yr program, graduting in 2002 with a BS in Aeronautical Science. After 9/11, and with the airline industry in the toilet I took a year off while I thought about what else a Aero Sci degree was good for. In December of 2003 I accpeted an internship with a South Florida airline flying daily in and out of the Bahamas. After a tiring year of that, I accpeted a position with Northwest Airlines. I lived in Memphis, TN for my first 2 years with the company. I currently reside outside of Greenville, SC. where I commute up to Detroit, MI once a week for work. I fly mainly throughout the lower 48 and Canada. The perks of the job are unparalleled and you can't beat the front office view either!

WOW...The past 10 years have gone by so fast! After leaving Valley in the 9th grade I ended up going to Leesburg Christian School in Leesburg. Left there in my 10th grade year and came back up to Purcellville and took my 11 & 12 grades together at Scarlet Oak Christian Academy. It is here that I found the best friend anyone could have by his or her side! Once I graduated in 1996, I took about a year and a half off of school and then decided to go to Graham Webb for Hair & Cosmo part time. Once I completed Graham Webb, I enrolled in Nails For You to credit the Cosmo courses I had taken.
Then realizing, the way society was coming out with electronics and computers, I decided to take some online computer admin courses with some Microsoft and legal courses. In July 1999, I started working for a law firm that specialized on defaulted home loans in DC, MD, & VA. I left there in March of 2000 to a computer-based business in Chantilly, VA. They were a small in-house computer software company who had alliances with Hewlett-Packard. It has been one of the best experiences ever! After being there 2 months, my son was born on May 20th 2000. I stayed home with him about 4 weeks and then went right back to work and have been here ever since. It is now going on 8 years and the time has flown.
On October 20th, I will be getting married to my long time boyfriend of 6 years. It is about time! :-)
As for the future, I do not know where my road or my path will lead me, but I plan to enjoy the ride!

Hey everyone. After graduating from the Architecture School at UVA in 2001 I spent two years bumming around various parts of California. I then backpacked around western and central Europe for a few months where I eventually met my wife during a summer furniture design program in Copenhagen. I then moved to NYC where she was living, worked in various architecture firms around the city and ended up at Columbia for grad school in 2008. After being a professional student for far to long I will finally be graduating this year with degrees in Architecture and Historic Preservation. i went to shepherd college and got a BFA in graphic design and an AA in photography. in 1997, i started dating vinson cornejo, who is from chantilly, VA. in 2003 we got married on the beach in cozumel, mexico as the sun set and with our family. we now live in ashburn, va.
i am a graphic art and web designer. at the end of 2005, i decided to start my own little freelance business "silver arts", doing graphic and web design. i mostly design things like logos, brochures, and coding and designing websites. helping all types of companies is what makes this so fulfilling!

I graduated from Carson Newman College in TN in 2001 with a degree in Music Education. After that, I taught guitar and general music in Ashburn, VA. After a year of teaching, the Lord led me to New Orleans and then to Lynchburg, VA where I completed seminary with a MAR degree specializing in counseling. There, I met the man of my dreams...Tim Longenecker! We were married in April of 2005.
That year, I began work as a Child Therapist, Tim continued work with Yellow Book USA and we expereinced the joy of marriage. After our first year of marriage, Tim was asked to be the Youth Pastor at our church in Lynchburg. We love serving Jesus Christ with the Youth there.
In 2006, we found out that we were going to be parents! Jada Faith Longenecker was born April 27, 2007. She is an added blessing to our family.
Currently, Tim continues to work with Yellow Book USA and serve as the Youth Pastor at our church. He also records and performs Christian Rap Music. Sometimes, I get to do back-up vocals on his CD's and I also lead worship at church things. I, like several other Valley alumn, attended Virginia Tech, graduating in 2001. While there, I was in the marching band, rowed crew, and tried about everything else. I had the chance to spend a semester in Utrecht, the Netherlands, studying history. After graduation, I joined the Navy, and now am a linguist stationed in Hawaii. Before Hawaii, I was in Northern California for a while.
I am currently working on my MBA at Hawaii Pacific University.
In my 'free time' (HAH) I love to go to the beach, go hiking, and go island hopping. Kauai is currently the favorite, but the Big Island is a close second.
I have about two years left here, then plan to relocate back to the East Coast and start my next adventure.

It's hard to write a summary of everything that has happened over the past 10 years - there is so much! I graduated from William and Mary in 2001 and went north to graduate school at NYU. While living in NYC, I worked as a sexual health advocate for NYU - training and completing workshops for local communities (think self identification, youth empowerment, advocacy) and as a publications editor with a national women's organization. Challenging and dirty and loud, New York is my true love and I hope to find myself back there someday...
After New York, I moved back to DC - taking a transfer within the organization where I was currently employed. This brought me closer to national politics and allowed me to continue public outreach, but in my home community. However, shortly after moving back to DC, I found myself burnt out from campaign work, poor from non-profit employment and school loans, and generally needing a change. The door that opened next for me was one at an executive research firm, Corporate Executive Board. This was a huge but welcomed curveball; my time there was a catalyst for many life-changing experiences. I worked at CEB for 5 years - the past 12 months of which I spent living in London and running the European branch of their events department. WOW! That was fab, traveled the world on someone else's dime, got mad experience and loved every minute of my 70 hour work weeks.
After London, I had the option to stay with the company in Europe, but after traveling through villages in Africa, sleeping in huts on the beaches of Portugal, taking tea in St. Kilda... it's hard to go back to who you were before that. I found myself waking up in the morning and wondering "what the hell I was doing to make the world a better place" - other than running away from it. So, I quit my job, packed up my belongings and moved back to the States - where I am currently residing and loving life as a major donor fundraiser for the Human Rights Campaign. Being tasked with the privilege of representing what is today's civil rights movement in America is... humbling and inspiring. I love every minute of it. For more information check out www.hrc.org.

I've been keeping busy, for sure!
After graduating from Valley I did a stint at Nova and then transferred to VCU. I earned my undergrad major in English with a minor in Philosophy. I worked as a cook in RVA for a few months after college, then jumped back up to LoCo to work as a professional gardener in and around Middleburg. For a while there I was pruning Eglantynes in Jacquie Mars' rose garden (think matriarch of the M&Ms/ Snickers/ Milky Way dynasty...) I saved lots of cash for a year and then ditched the regular hustle and bustle to hike the Appalachian Trail from April - Sept. 2004, with my oldest buddy, Stephen Williams (County grad. ‚97).
After completing that, I found myself teaching English at Valley not a week later. Jerry Black was still the principal and Marcia Owens was head of the Eng. Dept. and my boss. It was surreal referring to old teachers by their first names and attending faculty meetings. I had students whose older siblings were friends with my younger brother and sister. They looked me up in the old yearbooks, berated me for personal information, and generally challenged me in a way that was completely new. I loved it!
My second year was even better. I taught Priscilla Hill's old Advanced Comp. / World Lit. classes. With the help of Karen Cassidy (an ‚96 alumn.) she and I resurrected the talent show, which had been dead for 5 or 6 years. It was an absolute success! And, after 8 years, I got to do the drum solo that I was too shy to perform when I was a student.
Teaching at Valley was a blast, but the thought of becoming a lifer there terrified me. Too familiar. So a year ago I took a big leap and moved to Japan to see how people live on the other side of the world. I have no regrets whatsoever. It's geographically beautiful, culturally diverse, and, while sharing topical aspects of other globalized nations, the underlying philosophies are wholly different from the West. I don't see myself leaving anytime soon.
There have been many significant moments in between the above-mentioned highlights, as well. I've traveled quite a bit, bouncing around Europe, Central America, and now a bit of the East. I had a great love of five years that I would have married, had we been mature enough for it. But 25 felt too young for both of us. It's been wild attending friends‚ weddings and playing with their babies. I'm definitely up for all of that, but see no reason to rush.
When I'm not teaching students the intricacies of English grammar and syntax, I'm usually hiking or rock-climbing on the side of some mountain, reading quirky fiction or writing my own, and studying Japanese. Playing music, avant-garde cooking, and karaoke are also high on the list.
I'm coming home for two weeks to visit family and see friends in August, but unfortunately it's a full month early for the reunion. I wish everyone well and hope there are a few toasts to any high school memories I may happen to play a role in!

Well.....I did my undergrad at the University of Texas at Austin, taking a few semesters off here and there to spend a semester in Costa Rica and a few months in Tanzania- getting my feet wet in tropical conservation biology.
After my undergrad finally finished up in 2002- I started a Masters at Columbia University in New York City in Conservation Biology. I got interested in how animals move from fragmented patches of forest around landscapes that are being urbanized, and began to work with dung beetles in the greater New York Metro region.
This segued into a job as an "Invertebrate Biodiversity Specialist" which is an overblown title for someone who sits behind a desk and thinks about bugs and checks Perez Hilton more often than she should in a day. Two years there, lots of scientific conferences and steep learning curves later, I'm working part time at the Museum, and full time on my PhD at Columbia U.
This brings will be bringing me to Brazil for most of the next 3 years to (I am in fact clicking away from a small town in Minas Gerais right now)- where I'm working with a team from the UK, Colombia and Brazil to investigate the sustainability of mammal hunting in extractive reserves in the western Brazilian Amazon. Think no mammals, no poop...no poop..no beetles that eat it...no dung beetles...no dispersal and planting of the seeds that actually compose the rainforest....and no rainforest in overhunted areas with a 30 year time lag. Trying to model that in a way that can inform community hunting management in indigenous and extractivist societies across the Amazon. That's the idea.
Beyond the professional side of things, I've been partnered up with a wonderful (Colombian) guy for the past 6 years. We're looking to stay in New York after my PhD is done...relatively close to my family and conveniently located to all the big airports to get to his. Once we get a few post docs under our belts, we'll look to buy an apartment and get our long awaited puppy.

Over the past 10 years I have pretty much stayed in LoCo. Moved to Harrisonburg for one year to live with Della, then came back. May 10, 2008 I was married to a fantastic man. His name is Shawn. It's been a wonderful year and of course has flown by. We had a beautiful wedding here in Roanoke. Our ceremony was at our church, Peters Creek Church of the Brethren, and our reception was at a place call Hunting Hills Country Club. It couldn't have been a more perfect day. Everything fell into place and amazingly enough there really were no mishaps.
We spent our honeymoon at Walt Disney World in Florida. This was my first plane ride...EVER...and if you know me you can imagine my fear. :^) It was great though and we had a wonderful week with Mickey. I worked for Advance Auto Parts Corporate Center for 3 years until a department downsize eliminated my job. I was pretty hurt but I have a wonderful job working as a Staffing Coordinator for a Staffing Agency call Bright Services. I have been doing this for 3 months now and I love it.
I hit the big 3-0 on August 9th of this year and I can hardly believe that much time has passed in my life.
